Torsette / Comfortable Firm® Control

Dear Shapewear Diary,

Brrr!  It’s getting cold outside!  Since I’m cold-blooded, I get chilly fast, and given that I produce so little heat of my own, the idea of adding a layer of shapewear sounded great!  So, for my next shapewear experience, I decided to wear a torsette.  A torsette is a silhouette that’s also known as an under-bust camisole.  I wore it to work under a long-sleeve, lightweight sweater and slacks, and liked how smooth and firm I felt.  Its Comfortable Firm® control shaped and smoothed me.  This level of control seems like a good choice for anyone who wants to be shaped and smoothed over a long period of time.  I’d advise any woman who’s new to shapewear to try a Comfortable Firm® control garment instead of one providing extra firm control because it’ll probably give her the look she wants with a feel that’s not so intense. Which Torsette Is Right for You?

You may already know that the torsette is one of the latest styles of shapewear.  But did you know that torsette styling is available in a myriad of silhouette variations?  Torsettes are made for women who want to wear their own bras with shapewear.  They smooth the same places camisoles smooth, but include no material over the bust area.  This design solves a problem for women who have large or small breasts, or have difficulty finding properly-fitting shapers with the correct cup size.  It also helps women who are top heavy and want to wear all-in-one shapers that give the proper amount of control around the back, tummy, thigh, and midriff areas.  In addition to providing these solutions, the torsette allows customers to choose from plunge, push-up, demi, balconette, full-coverage, minimizing, or any other types of bras to ensure coordination with their fashions, moods, or audiences.  (more…)

Hi-Waist Long Leg / Light Control

 Dear Shapewear Diary,

This weekend I wore a hi-waist long leg (some call this silhouette a hi-waist thigh slimmer) with a lightweight dress.  The garment served multiple purposes.  Its nude color allowed it to function like a slip and provided some modesty insurance against any unfortunate backlighting.  It covered a great portion of my torso, thereby addressing many areas at once.  And, since it was a hi-waist garment, I was able to pull its top all the way up to my bra band.  This kept me smooth and prevented the formation of a muffin top (of course, wearing the correct size helped eliminate that problem too).  It also seemed to support the strapless bra I wore with my outfit.  (more…)

When to Choose Shapewear Separates over a Bodybriefer

The bodybriefer has long been a staple in the wardrobes of shapewear consumers.  But this silhouette isn’t for every woman.  Bodybriefers are designed for women of average height and those who have balanced bust-to-waist-to-hip ratios.  Though fabric stretch and some built-in adjustments can accommodate a majority of shapes within a single size, many women fall outside of these “average” and “balanced” foundation parameters and need alternatives to all-in-ones.  The combined use of separate shapewear pieces – made for the upper and lower halves of the body – is just such an excellent Plan B.  Separates provide fit flexibility and allow for the creation of a suit of underwear that best fits the body.  They also make using the restroom, when wearing shapewear, an easier experience.

So how do you know when you should choose separate shapers over a bodybriefer?  Here are three instances it makes wonderful sense: (more…)
