Torsette / Comfortable Firm® Control

Dear Shapewear Diary,

Brrr!  It’s getting cold outside!  Since I’m cold-blooded, I get chilly fast, and given that I produce so little heat of my own, the idea of adding a layer of shapewear sounded great!  So, for my next shapewear experience, I decided to wear a torsette.  A torsette is a silhouette that’s also known as an under-bust camisole.  I wore it to work under a long-sleeve, lightweight sweater and slacks, and liked how smooth and firm I felt.  Its Comfortable Firm® control shaped and smoothed me.  This level of control seems like a good choice for anyone who wants to be shaped and smoothed over a long period of time.  I’d advise any woman who’s new to shapewear to try a Comfortable Firm® control garment instead of one providing extra firm control because it’ll probably give her the look she wants with a feel that’s not so intense.  Hi-Waist Long Leg / Light Control

 Dear Shapewear Diary,

This weekend I wore a hi-waist long leg (some call this silhouette a hi-waist thigh slimmer) with a lightweight dress.  The garment served multiple purposes.  Its nude color allowed it to function like a slip and provided some modesty insurance against any unfortunate backlighting.  It covered a great portion of my torso, thereby addressing many areas at once.  And, since it was a hi-waist garment, I was able to pull its top all the way up to my bra band.  This kept me smooth and prevented the formation of a muffin top (of course, wearing the correct size helped eliminate that problem too).  It also seemed to support the strapless bra I wore with my outfit.  (more…)

Step-In Waist Cincher / Extra Firm Control

Dear Shapewear Diary,

Yesterday, I wore a dress that had a fitted bodice and an A-line skirt.  After putting it on, I realized I wanted to smooth out its waist, so I decided to try on a waist cincher.  The garment I selected had flexible bones sewn into it and was made of a smooth, shiny, knitted fabric.  It had elastic sewn onto both of its edges.  I chose the step-in variety (as opposed to the type with a hook-and-eye closure) because I didn’t want the hooks to show through my clothes.  (more…)

Underwire Camisole with Molded Fabric Cups / Firm Control

Dear Shapewear Diary,

Today, I ventured into the world of body-shaping camisoles with underwire molded cups.  I gravitated towards underwire cups hoping to gain the support of a bra, in addition to a little torso smoothing.  I wore the cami with a lightweight, knit top and a dark, denim, knee-length skirt.  When I’ve worn this same top in the past without a cami, bra lines have been visible along my back; but with this cami, my back was smooth.
