The 1940s.  It was quite a decade.  For much of the world, it was a time of tremendous military, political, economic, and cultural upheaval.  World War II was fought, and the Nuclear Age, the Cold War, and Decolonization all began. In the United States, Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball.  With the occurrence of such historically significant events, it’s easy to forget about the pop-culture markers of the time.  The Slinky®, the Frisbee®, Tupperware®, and Velcro® were all invented, commercial television was born, classic books like 1984 and The Little Prince were written, “film noir” rose to prominence as a cinematic style, and swing and crooning became all the rage in music. How to Make a Bra Purse

Do you have any old bras that have seen their better days?  Rather than tossing them in the trash, you might consider extending their lives by turning them into purses.  Popularized in efforts to raise awareness about breast cancer, such bra conversions have inspired contests, auctions, and even museum exhibits.

The good news is that it’s easy to turn your bras into purses.  All you’ll need is the following: a strapped bra (underwire styles work best but any style will do), a pair of scissors, some needle and thread, a glue gun, and any craft materials found around the house (like beads, pieces of lace, ribbons, etc.) that you’d want to use as decorations. In Praise of the Bodybriefer

Philosophers have mused about it.  Artists have sketched it.  Poets have written verse about it, and musicians have sung its praises.  But most fail to do it justice.  Is it a work by Socrates, Michelangelo, or Homer?  Is it one of the natural wonders of the world?  Is it an elegantly simple, unifying, scientific principle?  Nope.  It’s the foundation of foundations; the classic piece of intimate apparel that should be a part of every woman’s wardrobe.  It’s the bodybriefer.  Though you’re undoubtedly acquainted with it, and may have heard it referred to by one of its many aliases – all-in-one, body shaper, body slimmer, bodysuit, or body glove  – you’ve probably never worn one.  As we enter that time of the year (Halloween through New Year’s Day) when most people put on at least a few pounds, it’s not a bad idea to keep the bodybriefer in mind.  Why?  Because it allows you to continue to wear all of your favorite outfits, and look fabulous in them, until your New Year’s resolutions kick in and warm weather once again accommodates a regular exercise routine.
