If you’re revving up for a Thanksgiving Weekend full of power shopping, you probably have a game plan already in place.  You’ve researched the best sales, created an itinerary, and selected your shopping mate.  You know which pair of comfy shoes you’ll be wearing and what kinds of snacks you’ll be stocking in your purse.  If you’re one of those diehards who’ll be camping out in line, outside of a store, on Thanksgiving evening or during the wee hours of Friday morning, you no doubt are preparing to bring cold-weather gear, a chair, and a thermos of your favorite hot beverage.  You’re ready to go … or are you?  Have you given any thought to the panties you’ll be wearing for shopping’s version of the Olympic decathlon?  No?  Then you might want to spend a few minutes reading what follows.  Why?  Wedgies, VPLs, and Black Friday simply don’t mix.  Hi-Waist Long Leg / Light Control

 Dear Shapewear Diary,

This weekend I wore a hi-waist long leg (some call this silhouette a hi-waist thigh slimmer) with a lightweight dress.  The garment served multiple purposes.  Its nude color allowed it to function like a slip and provided some modesty insurance against any unfortunate backlighting.  It covered a great portion of my torso, thereby addressing many areas at once.  And, since it was a hi-waist garment, I was able to pull its top all the way up to my bra band.  This kept me smooth and prevented the formation of a muffin top (of course, wearing the correct size helped eliminate that problem too).  It also seemed to support the strapless bra I wore with my outfit.  (more…)

So how do you know when you should choose separate shapers over a bodybriefer?  Here are three instances it makes wonderful sense: (more…)

Step-In Waist Cincher / Extra Firm Control

Dear Shapewear Diary,

Yesterday, I wore a dress that had a fitted bodice and an A-line skirt.  After putting it on, I realized I wanted to smooth out its waist, so I decided to try on a waist cincher.  The garment I selected had flexible bones sewn into it and was made of a smooth, shiny, knitted fabric.  It had elastic sewn onto both of its edges.  I chose the step-in variety (as opposed to the type with a hook-and-eye closure) because I didn’t want the hooks to show through my clothes.  (more…)
