A Brief Brief about Briefs

When you think about shapewear, which silhouette do you envision?  Do you see a torsette, a bodybriefer, a pantliner, or a waist cincher?  Chances are that you picture something more basic; chances are you see a brief.  Briefs may not be exciting, but they address certain needs well.  Think of them as the vanilla ice cream of shapewear – nothing fancy, but very popular.  But even the brief can be made with features that will surprise and delight.  In fact, I could go on and on about this pillar of shapewear, but I think it would be best to be brief. Shapewear for Women Who Hate Shapewear

Over the past decade or so, shapewear has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity.  It’s a favorite discussion topic of morning news programs and afternoon talk shows, and is frequently written about by fashion editors and bloggers.  Many of the stars of the big and small screens promote their devotion to their favorite brands.  But despite all of the signs of general acceptance, and the ever-expanding size of the developed world’s waistlines, most women today still don’t wear shapewear.  One can’t help but wonder whether inaccurate, preconceived ideas about how shapewear looks, feels, and functions – by those who’ve never shopped for it or tried it on – aren’t causing this “usage disconnect.” (more…)

There’s No Such Thing as a Silly Shapewear Question

Since I began working in the underwear and shapewear industry, I’ve had people ask me a variety of questions about intimates. More often than not, I’m asked questions that have been asked of me before. I’ve always tried to provide answers in a way that puts people at ease because I realize they may feel a little awkward asking them. And since people sometimes become self-conscious asking such questions, I know that there are some that are too embarrassing to be asked in person. Shapewear for Rectangular Bodies

For the past month, we’ve been looking at how weight is distributed on women’s bodies and how intimates can be used to enhance the prototypical figures created by that distribution.  We’ve discussed pear-shaped, apple-shaped, and hourglass-shaped bodies.  The final group in this tetralogy really doesn’t have just one shape-name associated with it.  Some people refer to it as a ruler; others, a tube, a banana, or a rectangle.  For purposes of this post, we’ll refer to it as a rectangle, because I doubt there are too many ladies out there who want to be identified with a banana.
