Leaves will soon begin to change their colors, so it’s time to start considering your fall wardrobe.  This year’s autumn inspirations range from the 1950s and early 1960s, to lower hemlines, splashes of gold, and leather.  Next season’s fashion trends are sure to make your curves look fantastic.  And the right shapewear will take those trends to the next level.

The focus on the hourglass silhouette remains, as the popularity of Mad Men continues.  This curve-friendly trend can be used in many flattering ways.  For example, consider wearing a funnel neck to bring eyes up to your pretty face, and wearing your hair up for a polished effect. In addition, try donning a smoothing camisole or torsette under your sweater for a more sophisticated look.

You can also wear fitted, hip-length cardigans with belts to accentuate, or create, a waist.  Make sure you don’t wear a sweater that’s too small or too large; that’ll make you look bigger than you really are.  Hip length will be perfect and can be worn with many looks for many other seasons.  The addition of a thin belt will update the cardigan and pull your look together, further defining your waist.  Wear this look with pants (a wide or straight leg is most flattering) or a skirt.  And what can be worn under any of these looks to help create that hourglass silhouette?  A waist cincher or hi-waist brief will do the trick.  If wearing pants, consider a thigh slimmer to smooth out your hips.

Autumn 2010 will also feature full skirts with falling hemlines.  I like tea-length, full skirts. They’re attractive, deliver waists that look small, and magically cover your hips – or create them if you have none.  As a bonus, they twirl well.  Who says those over the age of five can’t have fun twirling skirts?  If you’re wearing a full skirt, make sure that your top is fitted.  This will refine your look.  To avoid any skirt-to-top transition bumps, you may want to wear a torsette or waist cincher underneath.  Some may prefer to wear a hi-waist brief to hold in the tummy and provide a smooth transition to the fitted top.  If you do, make sure to pull it up under your bra to avoid creating a muffin top or accentuating any lower back fat.

If you enjoy sparkling, you’ll love this fall’s gold trend.  You may see garments with gold details and prints in stores.  I like the use of gold in brocades.  If you wear gold, stick to one dazzling piece.  Try a gold brocade skirt, jacket, or purse – but not all three.  And be sure to keep items occasion-appropriate.  No matter how fabulous something is, it may not be appropriate for the office.  Of course, consider wearing the proper shapewear under your sparkle.  Since you’re drawing eyes to your dazzle, you’ll want to make sure they focus on your outfit, not notice your lumps.

If leather calls your name, make sure that your look is sleek, not dominatrix-like.  Dark tights look great with a simple leather pencil skirt.  Avoiding lots of rivets and additions will provide more versatility and elegance.  Try wearing a tailored, light leather jacket in place of a cardigan.  But be careful.  Leather tends to create unseemly pulls over tighter spots, like hips.  Wearing a thigh slimmer can smooth you out and address such stress points.  Shapewear can also eliminate the leather-on-leather-off dance.

Remember to keep the quality of your glam items, like leather and gold, in mind.  Poor-quality items tend to look cheap and scream “low price.”  If you want in on the trends, but you’re on a tight budget, go with one higher-quality item instead of several lower-quality ones.  This will make you look classy, not trashy.  When purchasing less-expensive clothes, you should remember that simple items conceal prices better than bedazzled, beaded, or gilded ones.

If you’re unsure of the finished effect when wearing a new trend, try it on while wearing shapewear.  You may find yourself happy with the results.  You can bet that the gals in magazines, and on TV, wear shapewear too!
